Angela Davis is an American political activist, professor, and author who was an active member in the Communist Party
and the Black Panther Party. In 1970, Davis was wrongfully prosecuted for three capital felonies and held in jail for more than a year before being acquitted of all charges in 1972, inspiring the “Free Angela” campaign. Since then, she has continued to be a lifelong activist and scholar focused on the abolition of the prison industrial complex, feminism, anticapitalism, and the liberation of marginalized communities.
